The abdomen should be the largest of your three ovals.

دەربارەی ئەم وێنەیە

A bee is a striped pill with two wings too small for it, and both facts are the drawing: the abdomen's rings wrap a fat oval, and the wings really are undersized - drawing them plausibly big is the one mistake that unmakes the bee. Keep it chubby, keep it fuzzy at the thorax, and let the stripes curve.

Underneath, this is the same three-segment construction as every insect on the site; the species lives in the proportions, the wings and the pattern.

هەنگاو بە هەنگاو

  1. هەنگاو 1

Draw one large oval for the abdomen.

Insects are drawn back to front: the abdomen is the biggest of the three segments and it sets the scale for everything, so it goes down first, in one motion, larger than instinct suggests.

چاودێری بکە Starting at the head and running out of room behind.

پشکنین The abdomen should be the largest of your three ovals.

  2. هەنگاو 2

Add the second mass, the thorax, ahead of the first.

The thorax is the machine room - every leg and every wing attaches to it and to nothing else. Draw it distinct from the abdomen, with a visible waist between the two on most species.

چاودێری بکە Merging thorax and abdomen into one blob.

پشکنین You should see a pinch where thorax meets abdomen.

  3. هەنگاو 3

Draw the head, and note how little of the bee it is.

Insect heads are small - usually the smallest of the three masses by far - and most of what you think of as the head is actually eyes. Keep it little and let the eyes dominate it.

چاودێری بکە An oversized head, which turns the insect into a cartoon.

پشکنین The head should be clearly the smallest segment.

  4. هەنگاو 4

Draw both eyes on the sides of the head.

Compound eyes wrap the sides of the head like a motorcycle helmet's visor - two big domes taking up most of the head's surface. Their size is the single most insect-like thing you will draw.

چاودێری بکە Small forward-facing eyes, which mammalise the face.

پشکنین The two eyes together should cover most of the head.

  5. هەنگاو 5

Put the antennae on with two committed strokes.

Two strokes, drawn fast and matching - the antennae are the insect's most delicate lines and they punish hesitation the way whiskers do. Draw the second by comparing it to the first.

چاودێری بکە Wobbly antennae built from short careful passes.

پشکنین Both antennae should curve the same way, the same amount.

  6. هەنگاو 6

Draw three legs on the near side.

All six legs come from the thorax - never the abdomen, which is the error that gives every beginner's insect away. Each leg is three straight segments with two visible joints.

چاودێری بکە Legs sprouting from the abdomen.

پشکنین Every leg should trace back to the middle segment.

  7. هەنگاو 7

Add the three far-side legs to match.

The far legs are partly hidden by the body, so they are drawn shorter and interrupted - which is what puts the near side in front. Compare their angles to the near legs rather than inventing new ones.

چاودێری بکە Far legs drawn full length, floating beside the body.

پشکنین The far legs should be visibly interrupted by the body.

  8. هەنگاو 8

Draw the wings from the thorax back.

Wings lie ON the body, crossing its outline - the overlap is the attachment, exactly as it was for fins and bird wings. Draw each wing as one shape from its thorax root.

چاودێری بکە Wings floating beside the body, touching nothing.

پشکنین Each wing should visibly cross the body outline.

  9. هەنگاو 9

Draw two or three veins per wing.

Two or three structural veins per wing are enough - the eye tiles the rest. A fully veined wing goes grey and reads as stained glass rather than membrane.

چاودێری بکە Veining every cell of the wing.

پشکنین Most of each wing should still be empty.

  10. هەنگاو 10

Mark the body with the bee pattern.

Insect patterns follow the segments: stripes ring the abdomen, spots sit inside segment boundaries. Pattern that ignores the segmentation flattens the body instantly.

چاودێری بکە Pattern drawn across segment boundaries as if on flat paper.

پشکنین Every stripe or spot should respect a segment edge.

  11. هەنگاو 11

    Complete the bee specifics.

Whatever identifies the species goes on last - a sting, a spot count, a horn - placed exactly and stopped early. One correct identifying mark beats five approximate ones.

چاودێری بکە Leading with the identifying detail before the build works.

پشکنین The insect should read as its species at arm's length.

  12. هەنگاو 12

Add the ground shadow under the bee.

Two soft overlapping arcs under the legs are the whole ground - an insect is small enough that a full ground line overstates it. The shadow sits directly below the body's mass, slightly forward of the abdomen, and it is what makes six thin legs read as standing rather than dangling.

چاودێری بکە A hard ground line, which reads as a table edge at this scale.

پشکنین The shadow should sit below the thorax and abdomen, not the head.

  13. هەنگاو 13

Press harder on the keepers, remove the guides.

Weight the three segment outlines and the near legs, keep veins and far legs light, erase the guides. Depth in a drawing this small is mostly line-weight contrast.

چاودێری بکە Equal weight on near and far legs.

پشکنین Near legs darker than far legs, everywhere.

The skill underneath is drawing small without drawing timid: an insect rewards the same committed strokes as a horse, just shorter, and hesitation shows even more at this scale.

The bee is the insect family's opener because everything about it is forgiving: fat segments, bold rings, no long limbs to tangle. It is also the family's first pattern-wraps-form test, with the rings doing the barrel-hoop job at a tenth the size.

چیت پێوستە

A pencil and any paper, or a finger on the canvas above - nothing here needs special equipment. Keep the construction light if you are on paper, because the guides come off at the end.

ئەگەر خراپ بێت

If it reads as a wasp, it is too thin and too smooth: a bee is round-bodied with a furry thorax - a few short ticks around the middle segment carry the fuzz.

If the stripes flatten the abdomen, they are straight: each ring curves with the oval, exactly like the barrel's hoops.

If the wings look wrong, they are too big. Bee wings are shorter than the abdomen, held back over the body, and their smallness is part of the charm.

پرسیارێک کە خەڵک دەیکەن

How do I draw a bee's stripes?
As rings that curve with the abdomen's oval - the barrel-hoop rule at insect scale. Straight stripes flatten the body into a badge.
Why does my bee look like a wasp?
Too thin and too smooth. Fatten the abdomen, round everything, and add a few fuzz ticks around the thorax - a bee is a teddy where a wasp is a dart.
How big should a bee's wings be?
Smaller than feels right - shorter than the abdomen, held back over the body. Oversized plausible wings are the one error that unmakes a bee.
Can I draw a bee on paper instead of the canvas?
Yes - every step works on paper, and the printable sheet has the construction on one page and the finished sketch on the other. Photograph the result and it is measured like any canvas drawing.
How many body parts does a bee have?
Three, in a row: abdomen biggest, thorax in the middle, head smallest. Getting that size order right is most of the drawing.
Where do the legs attach on a bee?
All six to the thorax - the middle segment - and never to the abdomen. Legs off the abdomen are the error that gives every beginner insect away.
Can a beginner draw a bee?
Yes - it is three ovals, six jointed lines and a pattern, with a finish-early step marked partway through so a hard day still ends with a complete drawing.
How do I draw the wings on a bee?
As shapes laid OVER the body, crossing its outline, with two or three veins each. The overlap is the attachment; full veining turns membrane into stained glass.
Why does my bee look like a cartoon bug?
Usually the head is too big and the eyes too small. Shrink the head to the smallest of the three segments and let two big dome eyes wrap its sides.
