A mouse is three circles and a tail, which makes it the fastest animal on this site - but it is also a proportion lesson in disguise, because everything about a mouse is a ratio pushed to an extreme: ears too big, eyes too big, tail longer than the body. Draw it timid and it reads as a hamster.
Like every four-legged animal on this site, it is built from two masses and a spine: a ribcage, a pelvis, and one curve joining them. Get those three right and the rest is placement.

-
قدم 1
Block in the ribcage as one big oval.
The ribcage is the largest single mass in almost every four-legged animal, and drawing it too small is the most common structural error in the whole category. Draw it in one motion and make it bigger than feels right.
ڏسو Drawing the chest small to leave room for everything else.
چيڪ The chest oval should take up around a third of the body's length on its own.
-
قدم 2
Draw the pelvis behind it, and mind the gap between the two.
The gap between the two masses is information: it is most of what separates a long animal from a compact one. Decide the gap deliberately rather than letting it happen.
ڏسو Butting the pelvis directly against the chest.
چيڪ You should see clear space between the two ovals.
-
قدم 3
Join the two ovals with a single spine curve.
One continuous curve, drawn in one pass. The spine sets the whole animal's attitude, and a spine assembled from three short strokes reads as three different animals stitched together.
ڏسو Drawing the spine as separate flat segments.
چيڪ The curve should touch both masses without a corner.
-
قدم 4
Put the skull in, and mark the line from chest to head.
Note where the neck leaves the chest before you place the skull - on most animals it comes off the front of the chest mass, not the top, and that single angle carries the species.
ڏسو Hanging the head above the body instead of in front of it.
چيڪ The neck guide should leave the FRONT half of the chest oval.
-
قدم 5
Draw the neck as a solid, not a stick.
A neck is a solid with real thickness, and on most animals it is thicker than you think - nearly as deep as the head itself. Two curves, one over, one under.
ڏسو A thin stick neck, which makes any animal look fragile.
چيڪ The neck should be nearly as thick as the head is tall.
-
قدم 6
Run the outline along the top and bottom of the mouse.
This is where the animal stops being two eggs. Let the topline follow the spine you already drew and keep the belly line taut - a sagging belly is a decision, not an accident.
ڏسو Ignoring the spine curve you drew and inventing a new back.
چيڪ The topline should agree with the spine curve underneath it.
-
قدم 7
Put the belly in, sagging slightly.
The belly is a separate decision from the masses: it hangs below the line joining them, sagging most midway, and how much it sags is part of the animal - taut on a deer, generous on a cow. Draw it as one curve, not two arcs meeting.
ڏسو A straight line between the ovals, which reads as a table.
چيڪ The belly should dip below both mass bottoms at its middle.
-
قدم 8
Seal the outline: one curve at the front, one at the rear.
Two curves seal the body into one shape: down the front of the chest into the belly, and from the top of the hips around the rump to meet it. Without them the animal has no front or back and the legs float - this is the step that turns parts into a body.
ڏسو Leaving the ends open because the ovals suggest them.
چيڪ You should be able to trace the whole body without lifting your pen.
-
قدم 9
Draw the front pair of legs.
Legs are chains of segments with a joint at each bend, and every leg bends somewhere. Draw joint to joint in straight strokes first; curves come later if at all.
ڏسو Straight tube legs with no joints, which read as furniture.
چيڪ Each front leg should bend at least once.
-
قدم 10
Now the back legs, comparing them to the front pair.
The hind legs fold the opposite way to the front pair - the hock points backwards. Compare their length against the front legs rather than judging them alone.
ڏسو Back legs bending the same way as the front ones.
چيڪ Front and back feet should reach the same ground line.
-
قدم 11
Put the ears on, high and further back than feels right.
Ears attach further back on the skull than feels natural, and their shape is one of the strongest species signals you have. Draw the second by comparing it to the first.
ڏسو Planting the ears on top of the head like handles.
چيڪ Both ears should attach behind the midpoint of the skull.
-
قدم 12
Add the muzzle and the face.
The muzzle projects forward from the lower half of the head mass. Its length relative to the skull is the proportion to measure - it is the one that changes species when you get it wrong.
ڏسو A muzzle pointing down instead of forward.
چيڪ The eye should sit in the top half of the head mass.
-
قدم 13
Draw the tail and the details that say mouse rather than animal.
Detail is suggested, never itemised. Put the marks where they identify the animal and stop early - texture spread evenly everywhere flattens the drawing back out.
ڏسو Covering the body evenly in fur marks.
چيڪ Step back: the big shapes should still read first.
-
قدم 14
Draw the eye in three layers, then the brow.
An eye is built in layers - iris, pupil inside it, one small highlight, and the brow line above that gives it a direction to look. The highlight and pupil must not touch, and the brow is what turns a circle into a gaze. This one feature carries more life than the rest of the head together.
ڏسو A single black dot, which reads as a bead.
چيڪ The highlight should sit at the pupil's edge, not inside it.
-
قدم 15
Give every leg a foot: a base line and a toe split.
A leg without a foot is a pole. One short base line at the bottom of each leg, angled with the ground, plus a single toe split, and all four legs suddenly bear weight. Feet are also where the ground line will attach, so place all four bases at nearly the same height.
ڏسو Legs ending in points, or feet at four different heights.
چيڪ All four feet should sit within one pencil-width of the same line.
-
قدم 16
Add the ground: one line, and the shadow beneath the body.
The ground is one line through the feet, and the cast shadow is one flattened arc beneath the body, darkest between the legs. Together they anchor the animal - without them even a perfect construction floats in white space. Keep the shadow tight under the body; a wide puddle reads as water.
ڏسو Skipping it, leaving the animal hovering.
چيڪ The shadow should touch at least two of the feet.
-
قدم 17
Let the coat break the silhouette in a few places.
Fur is an edge event: a few tufts where the coat genuinely hangs - chest, belly, rump - and nowhere else. Each tuft leans the way the coat grows, back and down, and the outline should still read as one body between them. This is also where the sealed construction line stops looking mechanical.
ڏسو Scalloping the entire outline evenly, which turns any animal into a sheep.
چيڪ Most of the outline should still be smooth between the tufts.
-
قدم 18
Shade the mouse - underside first, one direction.
Two or three patches of parallel strokes - under the belly, behind the shoulder - all leaning the same way, and the drawing suddenly has light in it. Keep the patches small: shading in a sketch is a note about where the dark lives, not a rendering.
ڏسو Scrubbing tone everywhere, which flattens the sketch it took fifteen steps to build.
چيڪ All the hatch strokes should lean the same direction.
-
قدم 19
Go over the lines you are keeping and lose the guides.
Press harder on the outline and the face, leave the small marks light, and erase the construction ovals. That weight difference is what makes the drawing look decided.
ڏسو Going over every line at the same weight.
چيڪ The outline should be clearly darker than the interior marks.

ڇا ان مان هڪ توهان کي سکڻ جي حقيقت ۾
The skill under the subject is comparison: each new part is judged against one already on the page, never against your idea of the animal. That habit is what fixes proportion everywhere.
The mouse is a lesson in exaggeration as accuracy: the true proportions are so extreme that drawing what you measure feels like caricature. It is the cheapest possible proof that your eye under-reports the truth.

Anything that makes a mark. On paper, press lightly for the first few steps - most of what you draw early is scaffolding you will erase.
جيڪڏھن اھو غلط آھي
If it looks like a hamster, the tail is too short. A mouse's tail is at least as long as its whole body - draw it further than feels right, in one confident curve.
If it looks like a rat, the ears are too small. Mouse ears are enormous relative to the skull - nearly half the head size each - and round.
If it looks like a toy, the body is too round. Even a mouse has the two masses: a smaller chest and bigger haunches, with the arch between them.

سوال
- How long should a mouse's tail be?
- At least as long as the entire body, drawn in one confident curve. A short tail turns the mouse into a hamster immediately.
- Why does my mouse look like a rat?
- The ears are too small and the muzzle too heavy. Mouse ears are nearly half the head size each, and the face tapers to a point.
- What is the easiest way to draw a mouse?
- Three circles - haunches, chest, head, in that order of size - a pointed face, big round ears, and one long tail stroke. Under ten minutes, honestly.
- How many steps does it take to draw a mouse?
- Twelve here: two body masses, the spine, the head and neck, the silhouette, four legs in two pairs, then features, detail and line weight. About 8 minutes at a comfortable pace.
- Where do the legs attach on a mouse?
- To the two masses, not the outline - front legs to the chest oval, back legs to the pelvis. Legs hung from the belly line are why animal drawings collapse.
- Can a beginner draw a mouse?
- Yes - the construction is two ovals and a curve, and there is a finish-early step marked partway through that leaves you with a complete drawing rather than an abandoned one.
- Do I need to draw fur on a mouse?
- Only at the silhouette edge, and only where the coat is genuinely long. Fur drawn all over turns any animal into a rug.
- What should I practise before drawing a mouse?
- Five minutes of ellipses or line control. The whole build is ovals and committed curves, and warm hands make it a different exercise.
