Par šo zīmējumu

A peach is a sphere with a crease, and the crease is the whole species: one soft line running pole to pole down the fruit's face, dividing it into unequal halves. It is drawn lighter than any outline - a valley in the form, not an edge - and how gently you state it decides whether the fruit reads soft or carved.

Like every simple form on this site, it is one mass plus value: block it in, break the outline where the real thing does, then let light do the rest.

Solis pēc kārtas

  1. Solis 1

Block the whole shape in as one oval.

One shape, one motion. A slightly lopsided mass drawn confidently beats a perfect one assembled from nervous strokes, because you can correct a shape and you cannot un-see hesitation.

Uzmanieties Building the mass from many small safe strokes.

Pārbaudīt It should fill most of the page with a margin all round.

  2. Solis 2

Break the outline so it is not a perfect oval.

Nothing organic is a perfect oval. Push the outline in and out where the subject actually does - the asymmetry IS the likeness.

Uzmanieties Leaving the construction oval as the finished outline.

Pārbaudīt The outline should differ visibly from the oval underneath.

  3. Solis 3

Put a vertical and a horizontal through the middle.

Two light lines through the middle are the rulers for everything that follows. Without them the features drift off-centre a few millimetres at a time.

Uzmanieties Skipping the axes because the shape looks simple.

Pārbaudīt The two lines should cross near the middle of the mass.

  4. Solis 4

    Draw the top feature.

Whatever sits on top attaches INTO the form, not onto its outline - it comes out of a dip or a mound, and drawing that junction is what attaches it.

Uzmanieties Balancing the stalk on the outline like a hat.

Pārbaudīt The top feature should overlap the mass's outline.

  5. Solis 5

    Draw the top hollow.

The hollow around the top is what makes the form read as having a top rather than an edge. One curve, and note which way it bows - it tells the viewer where their eye is.

Uzmanieties Omitting the dip so the top sits on a flat line.

Pārbaudīt The dip should curve, not sit flat.

  6. Solis 6

Mark which way the light comes from.

Pick a direction and commit. Every decision from here - shading, highlight, cast shadow - follows from this one, and changing your mind halfway is the classic way a drawing ends up lit from two directions.

Uzmanieties Deferring the decision and shading by instinct.

Pārbaudīt You should be able to point at the light source.

  7. Solis 7

Shade the side away from the light.

Work in one direction and build darkness in passes. Scrubbing back and forth gives an even grey - precisely the thing that makes a drawing look flat.

Uzmanieties Scrubbing, and stopping two steps short of dark enough.

Pārbaudīt The dark side should be clearly darker than the mid tone.

  8. Solis 8

Leave a light strip at the shadow edge.

Leave a thin lighter strip right at the shadow-side edge - bounced light from the surface below. It is the single cheapest thing that makes a form read as round.

Uzmanieties Running the shading tight to the outline.

Pārbaudīt A lighter line should separate shading from edge.

  9. Solis 9

Put the highlight in - small.

One highlight, small, off-centre on the lit side. Two symmetrical highlights read as plastic; a big one reads as wet.

Uzmanieties A large or doubled highlight.

Pārbaudīt The highlight should be smaller than your thumbnail.

  10. Solis 10

    Add the identifying surface detail.

Surface marks follow the form - they curve over the mass and fade near the highlight. Flat marks cancel the volume you just shaded into it.

Uzmanieties Marks drawn flat across the curved surface.

Pārbaudīt Marks should bend with the surface.

  11. Solis 11

Draw the shadow on the surface below.

Darkest at the contact point, softer as it stretches away from the light. It anchors the object; without it everything you shaded still floats.

Uzmanieties An even grey puddle not touching the object.

Pārbaudīt The shadow should touch the object's base.

  12. Solis 12

Press harder on the final lines and remove the guides.

Weight the silhouette, erase the axes and the oval, and leave the interior marks light. The weight difference is what makes it look deliberate.

    Uzmanieties Equal weight everywhere.

Pārbaudīt Outline darkest, marks lightest, guides gone.

The finished drawing of a peach with the construction lines erased

Tava neskatās tā, un tā nav domāta. Šī ir konstrukcija, kas aizņemta no sastatnēm, nevis zīmējums, ko kāds izdomājis apbrīnot - galvenais ir parādīt jums, kuras no jūsu līnijām bija ceļi.

Ko šis māca tev

What transfers is the standard light kit - core shadow inside the edge, bounced light at it, one small highlight, a cast shadow that anchors. Every shaded form you ever draw uses all four.

The peach is an edge-softness study: a crease that must not become a line, an outline that must not become crisp. It is the lips lesson's soft-edge discipline transposed to a subject with no likeness at stake.

Kas Jums nepieciešams

A pencil, kept light until the last step, and an eraser you will actually use. The construction is deliberately drawn to be removed.

Ja tā notiek nepareizi

If it reads as an apple, the crease is missing or too hard: one pale line, pole to pole, off-centre, fading out before both ends.

If it looks carved, the crease is an outline: lighten it until it almost disappears and let a slight tone shift between the two halves do the work.

If the fuzz is not reading, do not draw it - suggest it by keeping every edge on the fruit slightly soft, including the outline itself.

Jautājumi, ko cilvēki vaicā

How do I draw the crease on a peach?
One pale off-centre line from pole to pole, fading before both ends, with a slight tone shift between the halves. State it too hard and the fruit reads carved.
How do I draw peach fuzz?
You do not draw it - you imply it by keeping every edge slightly soft, including the outline. Drawn fuzz reads as whiskers on a fruit.
What makes a peach different from an apple in a drawing?
The crease, the doubled leaf at the stem, and the overall softness of every edge. Shape alone will not separate them - the crease does.
Can I draw a peach on paper instead of the canvas?
Yes, and for a shading lesson paper is arguably better - a soft pencil gives you more range than a finger on glass. The printable sheet has every step, and a photographed result is measured the same way.
How do I start drawing a peach?
One oval, drawn in a single motion, then correct the silhouette where the real thing differs. The oval is scaffolding, not the outline.
How do I shade a peach?
Pick a light direction and commit, shade in one direction in passes, keep the darkest band just inside the edge, and leave one small off-centre highlight.
Why does my peach look flat?
Almost certainly range - no true dark anywhere and no untouched light left on the page. Go two steps darker than feels safe and leave the highlight alone.
Can a beginner draw a peach?
Yes - it is deliberately one of the simpler forms here, chosen so the shading can be the whole lesson.
Does a peach need a cast shadow?
Yes, always. Without one the form floats on the page however carefully you shaded it. Darkest at the contact point, softer as it stretches away.
