Энэ зургийн тухай
A pigeon is the robin scaled up and puffed out, with two cheap identifiers doing all the work: the iridescent throat patch - two curved bands at the neck - and the small head bobbing on a body that always looks slightly overinflated. The head-to-body ratio is the drawing: tiny head, barrel chest.
Every bird here starts the same way: one egg for the body, a small circle for the head, and a beak that grows out of the skull rather than sitting on it.

Алхам 1
Draw the body as one oval and stop there.
Nearly every bird is one egg-shaped mass with everything else attached to it. Draw the egg in one motion and let its tilt say what the bird is doing.
Ажиллах Building the body from several small arcs.
шалгах The body should be one smooth closed shape.
-
Алхам 2
Add the head circle and note how small it is.
Bird heads are smaller relative to the body than beginners expect - usually about a quarter of the body length. Measure against the egg before you commit.
Ажиллах An oversized head, which turns the bird into a cartoon.
шалгах About four head-widths should fit along the body.
-
Алхам 3
Build the neck with a curve each side.
Even a short-necked bird has a neck: two curves joining head to body, front and back. Without them the head floats and the bird reads as a snowman.
Ажиллах Leaving the head disconnected from the body.
шалгах Both neck curves should touch head and body.
-
Алхам 4
Draw the beak - it comes off the front of the skull.
The beak grows out of the skull rather than sitting on its surface, and its angle continues the line of the head. Shape and size are the strongest species cues on the whole bird.
Ажиллах Sticking the beak flat onto the front of the circle.
шалгах The top edge of the beak should line up with the skull.
-
Алхам 5
Place the eye and darken the pupil.
A bird's eye sits high and close to the beak. Small, dark, with one highlight - and its position matters far more than its rendering.
Ажиллах Placing the eye centrally, which deadens the whole face.
шалгах The eye should be nearer the beak than the back of the head.
-
Алхам 6
Lay the wing over the body.
The folded wing lies ON the body, crossing its outline. That overlap is what attaches it - a wing drawn inside the body outline reads as a pattern, not a limb.
Ажиллах Drawing the wing floating inside the silhouette.
шалгах The wing should cross the body outline somewhere.
-
Алхам 7
Draw two or three feather groups, not individual feathers.
Feathers come in groups, and the groups are what you draw - two or three curved rows, not individual feathers. The eye supplies the rest reliably.
Ажиллах Drawing every feather, which turns the wing into a fence.
шалгах You should count feather GROUPS, not feathers.
-
Алхам 8
Draw the legs and toes.
Legs attach much further back than they appear to, because the visible leg is really the bird's foot and ankle. Get the attachment point right and the balance follows.
Ажиллах Legs planted centrally, which makes the bird tip forward.
шалгах The legs should attach behind the middle of the egg.
-
Алхам 9
Put the tail feathers on.
The tail continues the body's line rather than being stuck on the end. Draw it as one shape - separate feathers come last if at all.
Ажиллах A tail at war with the angle of the body.
шалгах The tail's top edge should flow from the back line.
-
Алхам 10
Draw the underside of the pigeon.
The breast is the fullest curve on the bird and it carries the pose. Round it generously - a flat chest makes any bird look deflated.
Ажиллах A flat front, which loses the bird's volume.
шалгах The chest should be the roundest curve on the drawing.
-
Алхам 11
Put in the pigeon colouring.
Markings follow the body's form - they curve as the body curves. Flat pattern drawn over a round form cancels all the volume you just built.
Ажиллах Drawing the pattern flat, ignoring the curve underneath.
шалгах Any stripe or patch should bend with the body.
-
Алхам 12
Add breast marks that follow the chest's curve.
Three or four short V-marks down the breast, each curving with the chest rather than sitting flat, and the whole bird reads as feathered. They also confirm the body's roundness - marks on a form must bend with it, which is the same rule as every stripe and patch on the site.
Ажиллах Covering the breast evenly, which turns the bird into a pinecone.
шалгах The marks should bend the same way as the chest outline.
-
Алхам 13
Anchor the bird: ground line, then shadow.
One line under the feet and one flattened shadow arc beneath the body, darkest between the legs. A bird with no ground floats in white space no matter how well it is built - and the shadow also confirms where the legs actually are, which birds hide well.
Ажиллах Skipping it and leaving the bird hovering.
шалгах The shadow should sit directly below the body's widest point.
-
Алхам 14
Press harder on the final lines and erase the blocking-in.
Weight the silhouette and the beak, keep the feather marks light, erase the construction. The contrast in line weight is what separates finished from traced.
Ажиллах Uniform line weight over the whole bird.
шалгах Silhouette darker than interior - check by squinting.

Энэ нь танд юу зааж байна вэ гэвэл
This is an attachment lesson: wing over body, beak out of skull, legs further back than they look. Everything on a bird overlaps something, and overlap is the cheapest depth cue in drawing.
The pigeon is the everyday-subject lesson: a bird you can check against reality within the hour, anywhere. Drawing something constantly available closes the observation loop faster than any exotic subject can.

Anything that makes a mark. On paper, press lightly for the first few steps - most of what you draw early is scaffolding you will erase.

If it reads as a dove, add the wing bars: two dark stripes across the folded wing are the city pigeon's uniform.
if the proportions look off, shrink the head: a pigeon's head is small even by bird standards, and the chest below it is the fullest of any bird this size.
If it looks alert, relax it: a pigeon's neck is short and withdrawn, the head sitting almost on the shoulders - the stretched neck is only for the strut.

Хүмүүс асуудаг асуултууд
- What markings does a city pigeon have?
- Two dark bars across the folded wing and an iridescent throat patch drawn as two curved neck bands. Those four marks are the whole uniform.
- What proportions does a pigeon have?
- Tiny head, barrel chest - the fullest chest of any bird its size, with the head sitting almost on the shoulders. Overinflated is the correct impression.
- Why draw a pigeon at all?
- Because you can check it against the real bird within the hour, almost anywhere on earth. A subject you can verify daily teaches faster than any exotic one.
- How do I start drawing a pigeon?
- With the body egg, always - never the head. The egg sets the size and tilt of everything, and a head drawn first ends up with a body that does not fit it.
- Where do the legs go on a pigeon?
- Further back than they look - behind the middle of the body egg. What reads as the leg is mostly the foot, and the real joint is up inside the feathers.
- How do I draw the feathers on a pigeon?
- As groups, never individually. Two or three curved rows on the wing are enough for the eye to fill in hundreds.
- Can a beginner draw a pigeon?
- Yes. The construction is an egg and a circle, and the species detail arrives late enough that a rough version still reads.
- What size should the head be on a pigeon?
- Smaller than instinct says - roughly a quarter of the body length. Oversized heads are what make drawn birds look like toys.
