Despre acest desen

An angelfish is drawn tall, not long: the body is a disc standing on edge, and the dorsal and belly fins extend it into a shape higher than it is wide. Then two or three bold vertical stripes wrap the disc - and wrapping them over the curve is the actual lesson.

Like every fish here, it is one oval with a tail, and everything else - fins, gill, eye - attaches to that oval by overlapping it.

Pas cu pas

  1. Pas 1

Block in the body as one long oval.

One long oval, drawn fast. Fish bodies are smooth in a way hands are bad at producing slowly, so go round the shape in one continuous motion and keep the best pass.

Ai grijă. A lumpy body built from careful short strokes.

Verificare The body should be symmetrical about its long axis.

  2. Pas 2

Add the tail, about a third of the body length.

The tail is bigger than you think - often a third of the body's length. An undersized tail is the single thing that makes a drawn fish read as a leaf.

Ai grijă. A small tail tucked against the body.

Verificare The tail should be about a third of the body length.

  3. Pas 3

    Add the gill line.

One curve, following the round of the head, roughly a fifth of the way along. It separates head from body and does more work than any other single line on the fish.

Ai grijă. A straight gill line, which flattens the head.

Verificare The gill curve should bow the same way as the nose.

  4. Pas 4

Put the eye in and darken it.

High and forward - roughly where the gill curve meets the top third. Round, dark centre, one highlight. Too low or too far back and the fish stops looking alert.

Ai grijă. Centring the eye in the head.

Verificare The eye should sit above the body's midline.

  5. Pas 5

    Put the mouth line in.

The mouth sits at the very front, lower than the eye, and it is smaller than instinct says. A short curve is enough - an open grin turns the fish into a cartoon.

Ai grijă. A large smiling mouth.

Verificare The mouth should be below and forward of the eye.

  6. Pas 6

Add the dorsal fin over the back.

Start the fin lines INSIDE the body so they cross the outline. That overlap is what attaches the fin - drawn outside the line it floats like a flag.

Ai grijă. A fin sitting on the outline without crossing it.

Verificare Fin lines should visibly cross the body outline.

  7. Pas 7

    Add the belly fin.

Compare it to the top fin, not to your idea of a fin: position, rake and size all read against the one you already drew.

Ai grijă. A bottom fin that mirrors the top exactly - they rarely match in nature.

Verificare The two fins should differ, deliberately.

  8. Pas 8

Add the fin on the near side.

The pectoral fin is the smallest and it sits just behind the gill curve, angled back. It is the one nearest the viewer, so it draws over the body.

Ai grijă. Making the side fin as big as the others.

Verificare It should be clearly the smallest fin.

  9. Pas 9

Add a hint of the pattern.

Suggest, never itemise. A handful of marks near the head lets the eye tile the rest of the body; drawing every scale turns the fish into a texture swatch.

Ai grijă. Covering the whole body in scales.

Verificare Most of the body should still be empty.

  10. Pas 10

Add what makes it a angelfish.

Species markings follow the body's curve and fade toward the belly. Put them on deliberately - they are the difference between a fish and this fish.

Ai grijă. Markings drawn flat across a curved body.

Verificare Stripes or patches should bend with the form.

  11. Pas 11

Shade the underside so it reads as round.

The underside is darker - light comes from above, even underwater in a drawing. One soft band of tone along the belly makes the whole fish read as round.

Ai grijă. Even tone everywhere, which flattens the body.

Verificare The belly should be clearly darker than the back.

  12. Pas 12

Draw three bubbles and two ripples, and stop.

Three bubbles of different sizes rising off the mouth and two long ripple lines are the entire ocean - more reads as boiling. The bubbles shrink as they rise, and the ripples drift horizontal, which is what places the angelfish in water instead of in white space.

Ai grijă. A column of same-size bubbles, or ripples that wave like flags.

Verificare The bubbles should get smaller as they rise.

  13. Pas 13

Go over the keepers and lose the guides.

Darken the silhouette and the tail, keep pattern marks light, erase the construction oval. Weight contrast finishes the drawing.

Ai grijă. Every line at the same weight.

Verificare The outline should dominate when you squint.

The finished drawing of an angelfish with the construction lines erased

What transfers is suggestion over itemisation - a few scale marks that let the eye tile the rest. The same restraint draws leaves, hair and crowds.

The angelfish exists on this site for its stripes: pattern wrapping form is the skill, and a bold stripe on a disc is the clearest possible practice for it - the same logic as the mug's grid and the cow's patches, at difficulty one-point-five.

Ce ai nevoie

A pencil, kept light until the last step, and an eraser you will actually use. The construction is deliberately drawn to be removed.

Dacă merge greşit

If it looks like a normal fish, the proportions are horizontal. Rotate your thinking: an angelfish with fins is TALLER than it is long, a triangle balancing on its point.

If the stripes flatten the body, they are straight. Each stripe must bow with the disc - curved at the edges, straightest in the middle.

If the fins look stuck on, they continue the body's line: the dorsal fin's front edge flows out of the forehead curve without a corner.

Întrebări pe care oamenii le întreabă

How do I draw an angelfish's stripes?
Bowed with the body, never straight - each stripe curves at the edges and straightens in the middle, which is what makes the disc read as round.
What shape is an angelfish?
Taller than long - a disc on edge, extended by tall dorsal and belly fins into a triangle balancing on its point.
How many stripes does an angelfish have?
Two or three bold verticals through body and fins is plenty. More reads as a barcode; the gaps matter as much as the stripes.
How do I start drawing an angelfish?
One body oval, drawn fast in one motion, then the tail before any detail. Everything else - fins, gill, eye - attaches to that oval by overlapping it, which is what keeps the parts reading as one animal.
How big should the tail be on an angelfish?
Bigger than feels right - about a third of the body length. An undersized tail is what makes a drawn fish read as a leaf.
Do I have to draw all the scales on an angelfish?
No, and you should not. A few marks near the head let the eye tile the rest of the body on its own; drawing every scale turns the animal into a texture swatch and loses the big shape you built first.
Can a beginner draw an angelfish?
Yes - it is one oval, a triangle and some overlapping fins, with a finish-early step marked partway through.
Why do the fins on my angelfish look stuck on?
They are not crossing the body outline. Start each fin line inside the body so it visibly overlaps the oval - that overlap is the attachment, and it is the single trick this whole family of lessons keeps reusing.
