Bu rəsm haqqında
A chicken is a teardrop with attitude. The body tips forward, the tail sweeps up and back in big curved feathers, and the head carries the two things no other bird has: the comb on top and the wattle under the chin. Both are just wavy shapes - and both are mandatory.
Underneath the feathers this is an egg with a head, like every bird on the site; the species lives in the beak, the tilt and the markings.
Addım-addım
-
Addım 1
Draw the body as one oval and stop there.
Nearly every bird is one egg-shaped mass with everything else attached to it. Draw the egg in one motion and let its tilt say what the bird is doing.
Diqqət Building the body from several small arcs.
_Yoxla The body should be one smooth closed shape.
-
Addım 2
Draw the skull as a small circle above the body.
Bird heads are smaller relative to the body than beginners expect - usually about a quarter of the body length. Measure against the egg before you commit.
Diqqət An oversized head, which turns the bird into a cartoon.
_Yoxla About four head-widths should fit along the body.
-
Addım 3
Join the two masses with the neck.
Even a short-necked bird has a neck: two curves joining head to body, front and back. Without them the head floats and the bird reads as a snowman.
Diqqət Leaving the head disconnected from the body.
_Yoxla Both neck curves should touch head and body.
-
Addım 4
Add the beak.
The beak grows out of the skull rather than sitting on its surface, and its angle continues the line of the head. Shape and size are the strongest species cues on the whole bird.
Diqqət Sticking the beak flat onto the front of the circle.
_Yoxla The top edge of the beak should line up with the skull.
-
Addım 5
Place the eye and darken the pupil.
A bird's eye sits high and close to the beak. Small, dark, with one highlight - and its position matters far more than its rendering.
Diqqət Placing the eye centrally, which deadens the whole face.
_Yoxla The eye should be nearer the beak than the back of the head.
-
Addım 6
Add the wing shape across the side.
The folded wing lies ON the body, crossing its outline. That overlap is what attaches it - a wing drawn inside the body outline reads as a pattern, not a limb.
Diqqət Drawing the wing floating inside the silhouette.
_Yoxla The wing should cross the body outline somewhere.
-
Addım 7
Suggest the feather layers.
Feathers come in groups, and the groups are what you draw - two or three curved rows, not individual feathers. The eye supplies the rest reliably.
Diqqət Drawing every feather, which turns the wing into a fence.
_Yoxla You should count feather GROUPS, not feathers.
-
Addım 8
Draw the legs and toes.
Legs attach much further back than they appear to, because the visible leg is really the bird's foot and ankle. Get the attachment point right and the balance follows.
Diqqət Legs planted centrally, which makes the bird tip forward.
_Yoxla The legs should attach behind the middle of the egg.
-
Addım 9
Draw the tail as one shape, not separate feathers.
The tail continues the body's line rather than being stuck on the end. Draw it as one shape - separate feathers come last if at all.
Diqqət A tail at war with the angle of the body.
_Yoxla The tail's top edge should flow from the back line.
-
Addım 10
Draw the breast curve.
The breast is the fullest curve on the bird and it carries the pose. Round it generously - a flat chest makes any bird look deflated.
Diqqət A flat front, which loses the bird's volume.
_Yoxla The chest should be the roundest curve on the drawing.
-
Addım 11
Put in the chicken colouring.
Markings follow the body's form - they curve as the body curves. Flat pattern drawn over a round form cancels all the volume you just built.
Diqqət Drawing the pattern flat, ignoring the curve underneath.
_Yoxla Any stripe or patch should bend with the body.
-
Addım 12
Put a handful of feather ticks on the chest.
Three or four short V-marks down the breast, each curving with the chest rather than sitting flat, and the whole bird reads as feathered. They also confirm the body's roundness - marks on a form must bend with it, which is the same rule as every stripe and patch on the site.
Diqqət Covering the breast evenly, which turns the bird into a pinecone.
_Yoxla The marks should bend the same way as the chest outline.
-
Addım 13
Draw what the chicken stands on, plus its shadow.
One line under the feet and one flattened shadow arc beneath the body, darkest between the legs. A bird with no ground floats in white space no matter how well it is built - and the shadow also confirms where the legs actually are, which birds hide well.
Diqqət Skipping it and leaving the bird hovering.
_Yoxla The shadow should sit directly below the body's widest point.
-
Addım 14
Go over the keepers and erase the guides.
Weight the silhouette and the beak, keep the feather marks light, erase the construction. The contrast in line weight is what separates finished from traced.
Diqqət Uniform line weight over the whole bird.
_Yoxla Silhouette darker than interior - check by squinting.

The skill underneath is placement against a mass: every feature reads relative to the egg, so the egg has to be right first. That order - mass, then features - is the whole method.
The chicken is the first bird here with a compound silhouette - body, tail fan, comb and wattle all breaking the egg outline. It teaches that a silhouette is built from the mass outward, one committed addition at a time.

A pencil and any paper, or a finger on the canvas above - nothing here needs special equipment. Keep the construction light if you are on paper, because the guides come off at the end.
Əgər səhv olarsa
If it looks like a duck, the posture is too level. A chicken leans forward over its feet with the tail rising steeply behind - the body's axis is a diagonal.
If the head is not reading, draw the comb bigger. Beginners make it a timid zigzag; it is a full wavy crest, nearly the height of the head itself.
If the legs look wrong, they are too smooth. Chicken legs are scaly sticks with three toes forward and one back, and the backward toe is what stops the bird falling over.

İnsanlar soruşurlar
- How do I draw a chicken's comb?
- As one full wavy crest running along the top of the head, nearly as tall as the head itself, with the smaller wattle hanging under the chin to match.
- Why does my chicken look like a duck?
- The posture. A chicken leans forward on a diagonal with the tail sweeping up behind - a level body with a flat tail is a duck.
- How do I draw chicken feet?
- Thin scaly sticks, three toes forward and one short toe back. The backward toe is what makes the stance read as stable.
- How do I start drawing a chicken?
- With the body egg, always - never the head. The egg sets the size and tilt of everything, and a head drawn first ends up with a body that does not fit it.
- Where do the legs go on a chicken?
- Further back than they look - behind the middle of the body egg. What reads as the leg is mostly the foot, and the real joint is up inside the feathers.
- How do I draw the feathers on a chicken?
- As groups, never individually. Two or three curved rows on the wing are enough for the eye to fill in hundreds.
- Can a beginner draw a chicken?
- Yes. The construction is an egg and a circle, and the species detail arrives late enough that a rough version still reads.
- What size should the head be on a chicken?
- Smaller than instinct says - roughly a quarter of the body length. Oversized heads are what make drawn birds look like toys.
