Start with a circle the size of the finished bloom.
The circle should be the size you want the finished head.

Дар бораи ин тасвирот
A chrysanthemum is the flower that punishes counting: dozens of narrow petals in ranks, and the only way through is the tree lesson's answer - draw the ranks, not the petals. Inner petals curl inward and stay short; outer ones lengthen and relax; and most of the middle is suggestion laid over a ball.
The build is the standard flower one: a light circle for the whole head, the centre, then petals in two passes that overlap.

Қадам 1
Start with a circle the size of the finished bloom.
The circle sets the finished size and stops the petals creeping outward as you add them - the commonest way a flower drawing ends up twice its intended size. Keep it light; it comes off at the end.
Диққат Skipping the circle and letting the petals sprawl.
& Озмоиш The circle should be the size you want the finished head.
-
Қадам 2
Draw the core of the bloom.
Everything radiates from the centre, so it goes down first, and every later petal is judged against it. Slightly off-centre reads more naturally than dead middle - real flowers are rarely symmetrical.
Диққат Starting with petals and fitting a centre in afterwards.
& Озмоиш The centre should sit within the guide circle, roughly middle.
-
Қадам 3
Draw the first group of petals.
Vary them as you go: a couple wider, one shorter, one overlapping its neighbour, and none exactly opposite another. Identical petals arranged evenly around a circle read as a printed logo, never as a flower.
Диққат Making every petal the same width and length.
& Озмоиш No two adjacent petals should match exactly.
-
Қадам 4
Fill in the other half.
The second half has to negotiate with the first - some petals now tuck BEHIND ones already drawn. That overlap is what gives the head depth.
Диққат Squeezing the remaining petals to fit without overlap.
& Озмоиш At least two petals should pass behind others.
-
Қадам 5
Add the dark core.
The centre is the darkest part of almost every flower - it is effectively a hole into shadow, and the eye reads depth from it. Commit to it now so the values around it have something to key against.
Диққат A pale centre, which makes the head look flat.
& Озмоиш The centre should be darker than any petal.
-
Қадам 6
Put the stem in with a slight curve.
From behind the head, never from its bottom edge, and with a slight curve - a dead-straight stem reads as wire. It is thicker than you expect near the head.
Диққат A ruler-straight stem meeting the head's outline.
& Озмоиш The stem should vanish behind a petal.
-
Қадам 7
Add a leaf each side, unevenly.
Different heights, different sizes, never opposite each other in a matched pair, and each angled its own way off the stem. Leaves are the place where flower drawings go symmetrical and die.
Диққат Two matched leaves at the same height, like a logo.
& Озмоиш The two leaves should differ in height and size.
-
Қадам 8
Add texture to the petals.
A few veins on the nearest petals only, each following its petal's curve from base to tip. Texture on every petal flattens the head; texture on the near ones pulls them forward.
Диққат Veining every petal equally.
& Озмоиш The far petals should stay clean.
-
Қадам 9
Put shadow beneath the overlapping petals.
Each petal casts a small shadow on the one behind it. Those little wedges of dark are what separate the layers - without them the petals dissolve into one shape.
Диққат Shading whole petals instead of the overlaps.
& Озмоиш You should be able to tell which petal is in front.
-
Қадам 10
Add the identifying parts of a chrysanthemum.
Whatever identifies the species goes on now, and only now - detail added before the structure works just gets erased along with the structure. Put it where it matters most and then stop early.
Диққат Leading with the identifying detail before the form works.
& Озмоиш The flower should read as its species at arm's length.
-
Қадам 11
Darken the very middle once more.
Push the centre darker than feels safe, in two or three passes rather than one heavy scrub. Beginners stop two steps short of dark enough, and the centre is the one place you can commit without risk.
Диққат Timid values in the middle.
& Озмоиш Squint: the centre should read first.
-
Қадам 12
Weight the outline and lose the construction circle.
Weight the outer petal edges and the stem, keep veins light, and erase the guide circle completely - any surviving arc of it reads as a halo hanging behind the finished flower.
Диққат Leaving the construction circle visible.
& Озмоиш No arc of the guide circle should survive.

What transfers is layering - each petal casting its small shadow on the one behind. That is the same overlap logic as fingers, foliage and feathers.
The chrysanthemum is the restraint exam of the flower family: hundreds of real petals, perhaps thirty drawn, and the head must still read as full. It is the tree's clump-logic executed at petal scale, and the reason it sits at difficulty three.

A pencil, kept light until the last step, and an eraser you will actually use. The construction is deliberately drawn to be removed.
Агар хатогӣ рӯй диҳад
If it looks like a daisy, the petals are all one length: a chrysanthemum's grow from short curled centre petals to long relaxed outer ones - three distinct ranks minimum.
If it turned into a scribble, you counted: draw the outer rank fully, the middle rank half, and the centre as a few curled marks over a shaded ball.
If it looks flat, the ball is missing: the whole head is a sphere first, shaded as one, with petals lying ON it - petals drawn on a flat disc stay flat.

Саволҳои маъмул
- How do I draw all the petals on a chrysanthemum?
- You do not - you draw ranks. The outer rank fully, the middle rank half, and the centre as a few curled marks over a shaded ball. Thirty petals must read as three hundred.
- Why does my chrysanthemum look like a daisy?
- One petal length everywhere. Chrysanthemum petals grow outward - short and curled at the centre, long and relaxed at the rim - and the gradient is the flower.
- How do I keep a many-petalled flower from becoming a mess?
- Shade the whole head as a sphere first, then lay petals on the sphere. Structure before census, on this flower more than any other.
- Can I draw a chrysanthemum on paper instead of the canvas?
- Yes - every step works on paper, and there is a printable step sheet with the construction on one page and the finished sketch on the other. Photograph the result and it can be measured exactly like a canvas drawing.
- How do I start drawing a chrysanthemum?
- A light circle the size of the finished head, then the centre, then petals - never petals first, or the head sprawls to twice its intended size.
- How many petals should a chrysanthemum have?
- Fewer than you think, varied in size, with some overlapping. Count on a reference if you have one rather than guessing - suggestion beats census on every flower you will ever draw.
- Why does my chrysanthemum look like a cartoon flower?
- The petals are identical and evenly spaced. Vary the widths, let petals overlap, and push the centre darker than feels safe.
- Can a beginner draw a chrysanthemum?
- Yes - the centre-outward construction keeps the head under control at every stage, and even a rough version still reads because the structure is right.
- Where does the stem join a chrysanthemum?
- Behind the head, disappearing behind a petal, with a slight curve along its whole length - never butted straight against the outline, which reads as stuck on.
