How to Draw a Daisy
1 / 12
Lay in one light circle for the head.
The circle should be the size you want the finished head.

Về bức vẽ này
A daisy is the first flower to draw because it is the radial construction with nothing hidden: a small yellow button in the middle and a single ring of white petals around it, each one a simple rounded strap. Every other flower on this site is a daisy with complications.
Like every flower here, it is built from the centre outward - core first, petals negotiating around it, stem from behind the head.
Bước một bước
-
Bước 1
Lay in one light circle for the head.
The circle sets the finished size and stops the petals creeping outward as you add them - the commonest way a flower drawing ends up twice its intended size. Keep it light; it comes off at the end.
Cẩn thận! Skipping the circle and letting the petals sprawl.
Kiểm tra The circle should be the size you want the finished head.
-
Bước 2
Draw the centre.
Everything radiates from the centre, so it goes down first, and every later petal is judged against it. Slightly off-centre reads more naturally than dead middle - real flowers are rarely symmetrical.
Cẩn thận! Starting with petals and fitting a centre in afterwards.
Kiểm tra The centre should sit within the guide circle, roughly middle.
-
Bước 3
Draw the first half of the petals.
Vary them as you go: a couple wider, one shorter, one overlapping its neighbour, and none exactly opposite another. Identical petals arranged evenly around a circle read as a printed logo, never as a flower.
Cẩn thận! Making every petal the same width and length.
Kiểm tra No two adjacent petals should match exactly.
-
Bước 4
Fill in the other half.
The second half has to negotiate with the first - some petals now tuck BEHIND ones already drawn. That overlap is what gives the head depth.
Cẩn thận! Squeezing the remaining petals to fit without overlap.
Kiểm tra At least two petals should pass behind others.
-
Bước 5
Darken the middle disc.
The centre is the darkest part of almost every flower - it is effectively a hole into shadow, and the eye reads depth from it. Commit to it now so the values around it have something to key against.
Cẩn thận! A pale centre, which makes the head look flat.
Kiểm tra The centre should be darker than any petal.
-
Bước 6
Add the stem, coming from behind the head.
From behind the head, never from its bottom edge, and with a slight curve - a dead-straight stem reads as wire. It is thicker than you expect near the head.
Cẩn thận! A ruler-straight stem meeting the head's outline.
Kiểm tra The stem should vanish behind a petal.
-
Bước 7
Draw the foliage.
Different heights, different sizes, never opposite each other in a matched pair, and each angled its own way off the stem. Leaves are the place where flower drawings go symmetrical and die.
Cẩn thận! Two matched leaves at the same height, like a logo.
Kiểm tra The two leaves should differ in height and size.
-
Bước 8
Put in the petal veining.
A few veins on the nearest petals only, each following its petal's curve from base to tip. Texture on every petal flattens the head; texture on the near ones pulls them forward.
Cẩn thận! Veining every petal equally.
Kiểm tra The far petals should stay clean.
-
Bước 9
Shade under the petals.
Each petal casts a small shadow on the one behind it. Those little wedges of dark are what separate the layers - without them the petals dissolve into one shape.
Cẩn thận! Shading whole petals instead of the overlaps.
Kiểm tra You should be able to tell which petal is in front.
-
Bước 10
Add the daisy specifics.
Whatever identifies the species goes on now, and only now - detail added before the structure works just gets erased along with the structure. Put it where it matters most and then stop early.
Cẩn thận! Leading with the identifying detail before the form works.
Kiểm tra The flower should read as its species at arm's length.
-
Bước 11
Darken the very middle once more.
Push the centre darker than feels safe, in two or three passes rather than one heavy scrub. Beginners stop two steps short of dark enough, and the centre is the one place you can commit without risk.
Cẩn thận! Timid values in the middle.
Kiểm tra Squint: the centre should read first.
-
Bước 12
Darken the final lines, rub out the guide.
Weight the outer petal edges and the stem, keep veins light, and erase the guide circle completely - any surviving arc of it reads as a halo hanging behind the finished flower.
Cẩn thận! Leaving the construction circle visible.
Kiểm tra No arc of the guide circle should survive.
Có vẻ như nó đã kết thúc.

Điều này thực sự dạy cho anh
This is a lesson about deliberate irregularity: petals that vary, overlap and tuck behind each other. Even spacing is the death of every flower drawing, and avoiding it is a skill you can practise.
The daisy is the reference flower, the way the robin is the reference bird: every default of the radial build, used plainly. Draw it once and the sunflower, poppy and lotus become lists of differences.

Cái mày cần
Anything that makes a mark. On paper, press lightly for the first few steps - most of what you draw early is scaffolding you will erase.
Nếu nó không ổn
If it looks mechanical, the petals are too even. Vary the widths slightly, let two overlap, and leave one gap a touch wider - the imperfection is what reads as alive.
If the centre floats, it needs its shadow: a crescent of tone along the underside of the button seats it among the petals.
If the petals look like a fan, they are not converging: every petal's base must point at the centre's middle, like spokes to a hub.

Câu hỏi người ta hỏi
- What is the easiest flower to draw?
- This one. A daisy is one small circle, one ring of strap-shaped petals, a stem and a leaf - the whole radial method with nothing hidden. Nine minutes.
- How many petals does a daisy have?
- Draw ten to twelve. Real daisies vary wildly, and past a dozen the petals stop reading individually anyway - the count matters less than the slight unevenness.
- Why does my daisy look like a cartwheel?
- The petals are identical and evenly spaced. Vary two or three widths, overlap one pair, and widen one gap - sameness is what reads as mechanical.
- Can I draw a daisy on paper instead of the canvas?
- Yes - every step works on paper, and there is a printable step sheet with the construction on one page and the finished sketch on the other. Photograph the result and it can be measured exactly like a canvas drawing.
- How do I start drawing a daisy?
- A light circle the size of the finished head, then the centre, then petals - never petals first, or the head sprawls to twice its intended size.
- How many petals should a daisy have?
- Fewer than you think, varied in size, with some overlapping. Count on a reference if you have one rather than guessing - suggestion beats census on every flower you will ever draw.
- Why does my daisy look like a cartoon flower?
- The petals are identical and evenly spaced. Vary the widths, let petals overlap, and push the centre darker than feels safe.
- Can a beginner draw a daisy?
- Yes - the centre-outward construction keeps the head under control at every stage, and even a rough version still reads because the structure is right.
- Where does the stem join a daisy?
- Behind the head, disappearing behind a petal, with a slight curve along its whole length - never butted straight against the outline, which reads as stuck on.
