Acerca deste debuxo

An eagle is mostly a beak and a brow. The hook of the beak is deeper than any other bird here, and the shadow ridge above the eye is what produces the famous glare - no eyebrow exists, just a hard line where the forehead overhangs. Draw those two right and a rough body still reads as an eagle.

Every bird here starts the same way: one egg for the body, a small circle for the head, and a beak that grows out of the skull rather than sitting on it.

Paso a paso

  1. Paso 1

Draw the body as one oval and stop there.

Nearly every bird is one egg-shaped mass with everything else attached to it. Draw the egg in one motion and let its tilt say what the bird is doing.

Coidado. Building the body from several small arcs.

Comprobar The body should be one smooth closed shape.

  2. Paso 2

Draw the skull as a small circle above the body.

Bird heads are smaller relative to the body than beginners expect - usually about a quarter of the body length. Measure against the egg before you commit.

Coidado. An oversized head, which turns the bird into a cartoon.

Comprobar About four head-widths should fit along the body.

  3. Paso 3

Draw the neck on both sides.

Even a short-necked bird has a neck: two curves joining head to body, front and back. Without them the head floats and the bird reads as a snowman.

Coidado. Leaving the head disconnected from the body.

Comprobar Both neck curves should touch head and body.

  4. Paso 4

    Add the beak.

The beak grows out of the skull rather than sitting on its surface, and its angle continues the line of the head. Shape and size are the strongest species cues on the whole bird.

Coidado. Sticking the beak flat onto the front of the circle.

Comprobar The top edge of the beak should line up with the skull.

  5. Paso 5

Draw the eye, then fill the pupil.

A bird's eye sits high and close to the beak. Small, dark, with one highlight - and its position matters far more than its rendering.

Coidado. Placing the eye centrally, which deadens the whole face.

Comprobar The eye should be nearer the beak than the back of the head.

  6. Paso 6

Draw the wing over the body.

The folded wing lies ON the body, crossing its outline. That overlap is what attaches it - a wing drawn inside the body outline reads as a pattern, not a limb.

Coidado. Drawing the wing floating inside the silhouette.

Comprobar The wing should cross the body outline somewhere.

  7. Paso 7

Sketch the feather groups on the wing.

Feathers come in groups, and the groups are what you draw - two or three curved rows, not individual feathers. The eye supplies the rest reliably.

Coidado. Drawing every feather, which turns the wing into a fence.

Comprobar You should count feather GROUPS, not feathers.

  8. Paso 8

Add the legs - further back than they look.

Legs attach much further back than they appear to, because the visible leg is really the bird's foot and ankle. Get the attachment point right and the balance follows.

Coidado. Legs planted centrally, which makes the bird tip forward.

Comprobar The legs should attach behind the middle of the egg.

  9. Paso 9

Draw the tail as one shape, not separate feathers.

The tail continues the body's line rather than being stuck on the end. Draw it as one shape - separate feathers come last if at all.

Coidado. A tail at war with the angle of the body.

Comprobar The tail's top edge should flow from the back line.

  10. Paso 10

    Shape the chest and underside.

The breast is the fullest curve on the bird and it carries the pose. Round it generously - a flat chest makes any bird look deflated.

Coidado. A flat front, which loses the bird's volume.

Comprobar The chest should be the roundest curve on the drawing.

  11. Paso 11

    Block in the eagle pattern.

Markings follow the body's form - they curve as the body curves. Flat pattern drawn over a round form cancels all the volume you just built.

Coidado. Drawing the pattern flat, ignoring the curve underneath.

Comprobar Any stripe or patch should bend with the body.

  12. Paso 12

Suggest the breast feathers - three or four V-marks.

Three or four short V-marks down the breast, each curving with the chest rather than sitting flat, and the whole bird reads as feathered. They also confirm the body's roundness - marks on a form must bend with it, which is the same rule as every stripe and patch on the site.

Coidado. Covering the breast evenly, which turns the bird into a pinecone.

Comprobar The marks should bend the same way as the chest outline.

  13. Paso 13

Put the surface in, and the shadow under the body.

One line under the feet and one flattened shadow arc beneath the body, darkest between the legs. A bird with no ground floats in white space no matter how well it is built - and the shadow also confirms where the legs actually are, which birds hide well.

Coidado. Skipping it and leaving the bird hovering.

Comprobar The shadow should sit directly below the body's widest point.

  14. Paso 14

Weight the outline and lose the construction.

Weight the silhouette and the beak, keep the feather marks light, erase the construction. The contrast in line weight is what separates finished from traced.

Coidado. Uniform line weight over the whole bird.

Comprobar Silhouette darker than interior - check by squinting.

O que parece rematado

O mesmo debuxo con todas as guías borradas e só as liñas que quería manter, co peso que quería que fosen. Se o seu aínda ten liñas centrais e formas de bloque, este é o paso que aínda non fixo - e leva uns trinta segundos.

The finished drawing of an eagle with the construction lines erased

A túa non se verá así, e non se supón que sexa así. Esta é a construción sen os andamios, non un debuxo feito por alguén para ser admirado - o obxectivo é mostrarche que liñas foron as guías.

O que este ensina realmente

What transfers is the egg-and-head build plus the discipline of drawing feather groups instead of feathers - the same restraint that draws hair, grass and fur.

The eagle is the site's lesson in expression through structure: no face muscles, no eyebrows, just a brow ridge casting the eye into shadow. It is proof that character is built from planes and shadow, which is the argument of the whole Level 3 course.

O que precisas

Anything that makes a mark. On paper, press lightly for the first few steps - most of what you draw early is scaffolding you will erase.

Se vai mal

If it looks like a parrot, the beak's hook starts too early. An eagle's beak runs forward almost level before the tip curves down - the hook is at the END, not the base.

If the glare is missing, add the brow ridge: one hard straight line over the eye, overhanging it. That line is the whole expression.

If it looks soft, the head feathers are too round. An eagle's neck feathers end in points - three or four V-shapes along the back of the head sharpen everything.

Preguntas que a xente fai

How do I draw an eagle's beak?
Running forward almost level, then hooking down sharply at the tip. A hook that starts at the base of the beak reads as a parrot.
How do I draw an eagle's glare?
One hard straight line above the eye - the brow ridge - overhanging it. No curve, no eyebrow, just that overhang. It carries the entire expression.
How do I draw eagle talons?
Thick short toes ending in deep curved points, drawn as confident hooks. Talons are the one place on the bird where an exaggerated curve improves accuracy.
How do I start drawing an eagle?
With the body egg, always - never the head. The egg sets the size and tilt of everything, and a head drawn first ends up with a body that does not fit it.
Where do the legs go on an eagle?
Further back than they look - behind the middle of the body egg. What reads as the leg is mostly the foot, and the real joint is up inside the feathers.
How do I draw the feathers on an eagle?
As groups, never individually. Two or three curved rows on the wing are enough for the eye to fill in hundreds.
Can a beginner draw an eagle?
Yes. The construction is an egg and a circle, and the species detail arrives late enough that a rough version still reads.
What size should the head be on an eagle?
Smaller than instinct says - roughly a quarter of the body length. Oversized heads are what make drawn birds look like toys.
